“I wish I had stayed in Saydnaya but my father would still be alive,” says Ahmad as he tells his story of being arrested in 2022. He was detained in Saydnaya prison where he suffered severe torture, resulting in a heart mass that affects his breathing and movement, and he caught tuberculosis in the prison, from which he recovered after much struggle. During his imprisonment, his father passed away, and he only learned of it after his release, which struck him like lightning and caused him to faint. Ahmad's suffering in prison ended, but that did not mean the end of his torment. He left prison to live with his mother and siblings under difficult living conditions, unable to work because of the heart mass that impairs his movement and breathing, and the family heavily relies on the charity of good people. Despite all he has been through, what occupies his mind today is fulfilling his mother's dream, who has always wanted to see him settled and married. Today, Ahmad appeals to the good people to help him build a new life despite all he has been through.
