Ahmed was born blind, and after a long period of displacement, he and his family found shelter in a crumbling house donated by generous neighbours. But his suffering did not end there, he later became paralyzed, facing the double burden of illness and disability. His wife tries to support the family with occasional work at a factory, earning a meagre daily wage if she can find work at all, leaving the family’s income nearly non-existent. The most heart-wrenching scene is his 12-year-old daughter, who pushes her father’s wheelchair for two kilometres each day to take him to treatment, despite her small size and weakness (a daily image that captures the family’s entire suffering). Today, Ahmed and his family stand on the edge of a life far beyond their means, waiting for someone to bring them light and support in the darkness of their days.
