Maher was shot seven times in the back during the war, leaving him with a permanent disability. After his injury, he was detained for many years and was released with a body worn down by wounds and complications.
To this day, his wound has not healed and requires constant dressings and medical care to prevent it from worsening.
The family lives on a very modest income. His father stands every day in front of a school with a small stall selling snacks to children, trying to provide for the family and ease the burden on his injured son.
There is more pain within the family. A brother suffered a serious leg injury, underwent surgery and bone fixation, and now lives away from his wife after being forced to leave her with her family due to the harsh living conditions.
An entire household carries the scars of war in their bodies, and wounds that remain open to this day.
