Intisar used to stand against life’s hardships to provide for her children, working in agriculture or any available job that could bring a small income to support her family. However, illness forced her to stop working, pushing the family into severe financial hardship, which even led her son to leave part of his childhood behind and work to help provide for the household. The family continues to suffer from a serious lack of basic necessities, to the point that some days they cannot cook in order to save what little they have. Intisar lives with her children in a small two-room house; one room for her and her children, and the other occupied by her brother who returned after liberation and has no other shelter. Between illness and financial strain, this family struggles day by day just to stay afloat.
