He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Meaning that he would need insulin treatment lifelong. But Salah's suffering did not end at this point, as he also suffers from CREST syndrome, a condition that causes hardening of the skin and muscles, and requires continuous treatment to ease the pain that accompanies it.
