Sedra was orphaned because of her father’s mercy. Her father, who worked as the director of a field hospital in the city of Jableh, was kidnapped in 2015 — just one month before she was born (Sedra was born on 20/05/2015). His news disappeared until the family later learned that he had been executed in Sednaya Prison. He was not the only martyr in the family. Both of Sedra’s maternal uncles were also killed by Assad’s regime. Today, Sedra lives with her grandparents, her only remaining uncle, her mother, and her siblings, in very difficult conditions due to the extremely low income. Yet none of this has stopped her: Sedra continues her studies, memorises the Qur’an, and dreams of becoming a dentist — a girl who wants to heal, despite all she has lost.
