Shams is an orphan girl; she was living with her family in a camp in the city of Azaz. Shams suffers from rheumatism, kidney disease, severe anemia, and nutritional deficiency. She later moved to live in the village of Molham for orphans and joined Molham School despite her difficult circumstances and pain to surpass all her school classmates. Shams hopes to recover from her diseases and to become a doctor in the future to help poor people.
