Story
This campaign aims to provide financial and in-kind support to complete the preparation of Douma National Hospital and put it back into service after it was destroyed during the years of the revolution by the former regime. The hospital was the central surgical facility for the city of Douma and most of the towns in Rural Damascus Governorate.
Reactivating Douma National Hospital and returning it to service will provide medical services to approximately 500,000 residents in the city and surrounding areas.
Short-Term Plan:
This phase includes urgent measures required to get the hospital operational. The plan can be completed within one month if sufficient support is available.
Key requirements for this phase:
- General site preparation: outer fence, lighting, paving internal roads, gates, landscaping, 2 elevators
- 2 power generators
- Archive setup and computers
- Morgue refrigerator
- Installation of 2 heating boilers
- Total cost for this phase: $300,000–$400,000
- Estimated 6-month consumables cost: $100,000
Medium-Term Plan:
This phase includes measures to launch the hospital in a way that meets the actual needs of the area. It can be implemented within 6 months to 1 year if support is available.
Measures for this phase include:
- Construction of a surgical block for general, orthopedic, and specialized surgeries
- Main building allocation for pediatrics, obstetrics, and internal medicine
- Staff housing construction
- Restaurant/cafeteria setup
- Total cost: $500,000–$600,000
Long-Term Plan:
This phase includes advanced measures to expand services, including:
- Training center with nursing and anesthesia institutes under the Ministry of Health
- MRI machine
- Construction of an internal medicine block
- Construction of a clinics building
- This phase can be completed within 1–2 years if support is available.
- Estimated cost: approximately $1,000,000
