Manal, a mother who was released from prison after 21 years of detention, gave birth to her son behind bars. He was taken from her when he was just one year old, and she was made to believe for years that he had been sent to an orphanage. She only discovered he was actually with his father after the regime fell, and the day she gained her freedom was also the day she met her son for the first time. Today, after all the suffering she has endured, Manal is facing serious heart problems. She urgently needs a diagnostic heart catheterization and may require stents. Her daily symptoms include extreme fatigue from even the slightest effort, chest pains, and irregular heartbeat and blood pressure, all of which severely impact her quality of life.
