For her humanity, she paid a heavy price, arrest, displacement, and the loss of her dearest loved ones. Today, Wafaa lives alone, ill and burdened by suffering. She struggles with high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and an irregular heartbeat. Her home lacks the most basic necessities of life; no oven, no functioning refrigerator, and no washing machine. She is unable to afford her medications or daily needs, and she is weighed down by accumulated debts. This strong woman, who was once a refuge for others, now needs someone to extend a helping hand, to ease the weight of life upon her and give her hope to continue her resilience and generosity.
