Story
After a long and exhausting journey of displacement in the camps of northern Syria, Rifaat returned with his family to their village, Sheikh Baraka, searching for shelter for his children. But the shock of returning was harsh; their home was no longer a house, but piles of rubble and stones. Rifaat had no choice but to set up a small tent over the ruins of the destroyed house, where they now live in harsh conditions lacking the most basic necessities of life.
In this painful reality, 12-year-old Hussein was trying to reclaim a small part of his childhood by playing near the tent, when a landmine left from the war exploded, filling his small body with shrapnel and causing a severe injury to his retina that now threatens his eyesight. Hussein urgently needs specialized medical treatment and surgery to save his eye and remove the shrapnel, while his father is completely unable to afford the cost of treatment.
Be a helping hand to Hussein and his family. With your support, a child’s eyesight can be saved, and the harshness of a life that began under the rubble can be eased.
