Bashar was forced to leave his classroom behind and step into the harsh world of work far too soon, becoming the sole provider for his ill mother and his little brother after the family lost its only breadwinner with the death of his father. His mother, Fatima, struggles with serious health problems, and the small income Bashar manages to earn barely covers the most basic needs of their day-to-day survival. The family lives in a single cramped room under extremely difficult conditions, relying entirely on the exhausting labor of a boy who should still be in school. Bashar was compelled to abandon the ninth grade and carry responsibilities far heavier than his young shoulders were meant to bear. Today, this family needs support—so that a child may return to being a child, and a mother worn down by illness and loss may find some relief from the weight of life.
