On the morning of the earthquake, Nawal had an appointment for the surgical operation she needed in Turkey, but because of the earthquake, she could not undergo surgery and her health has deteriorated ever since. Nawal has no one in Turkey but her son who is in debt for trying to secure his mother's treatment. Nawal suffers from kidney failure and several other diseases that cause her breath shortness in addition to having a tracheostomy tube to remove secretions. She lives in a room in northern Syria with her husband, waiting for someone to take pity on her and lend her a helping hand.
