Mahmoud, the head of his family, was unjustly imprisoned in 2017 on fabricated charges and spent four years in the notorious Saydnaya prison. When he was finally allowed a visit, he didn’t recognize his 4-year-old daughter, Samar. He broke down in tears when his wife gently told him, “This is your daughter.” Later, when prison guards discovered a lump in his chest, they subjected him to brutal beatings, intensifying his suffering. Though Mahmoud eventually made it out alive, he returned a different man—physically weak, barely able to move. Now, he lives with a constant sense of helplessness, feeling like a burden on his family, unable to feed or clothe his children, or even shield them from the cold.
