Iman is a woman worn thin by war, yet she still clings to life with fierce patience. A shell struck her and her husband—taking his life and shattering her feet. Part of her foot was amputated, leaving her to walk in constant pain and difficulty. Today, shattered teeth prevent her from eating properly; she survives mostly on liquids. She has paid what little she could toward her treatment, but the remaining cost is far beyond her reach. Iman returned from displacement to an old house stripped of its doors and windows, looted and broken. She and her children lived in that ruin until kind hands helped make it barely livable last Ramadan.
