In Al-Maram camp in the Idlib countryside, Awad's family lives in a worn out tent after being displaced from their town in the Hama countryside and after their eldest son, the family's sole breadwinner, was martyred. Awad recently underwent spinal surgery, but it failed, and he became bedridden and unable to work. He has seven children, the eldest of whom is Maysa, who suffers from a kidney disease and needs dialysis three times a week. His wife sometimes works in agriculture for a simple wage to secure the livelihood of her children and the price of medicine for her husband and daughter, but she is unable to cover all the expenses, and as a result, they have accumulated many debts.
