“Why doesn’t my father come back? When will I have my own bed and a stable home?”
These are the questions little Layal whispers every night as she tosses and turns on a bed that isn’t hers, in a house she doesn’t know. Layal, a child in the age of innocence, has never said the word “Daddy.” Her father went missing years ago when she was just a baby, and his fate remains unknown to this day.
She lives with her mother, who supports four children on her own, amid extreme poverty and constant moves between relatives’ homes. The mother struggles alone to provide even the basics, facing mounting debts and essential needs that go unmet. Layal and her siblings don’t ask for much… only to know: when will this pain end? And is there anyone listening to the cries of their childhood?
