Two-year-old Abdul Karim was born with meningocele, hydrocephalus, and cerebral atrophy, conditions that have brought him constant pain since birth. He lives with his large family of ten in a small, unfurnished home, where every day is a struggle to meet even the most basic needs. His father, the sole breadwinner, is also ill. Years ago, he suffered from a hernia but could not undergo surgery because of the difficult conditions in their area. His inability to work regularly has left the family trapped in poverty and despair. Yet, what pains him most is not his own suffering, but the sight of his little boy fighting an illness he cannot afford to treat.
