After years of imprisonment in Palmyra, Abdulhamid was released carrying severe illness. He has tuberculosis of the spine and damage to his hip joint, causing him intense pain that has left him unable to move and in constant need of care and assistance. The family lives in a modest home that belong to one of their relatives on the outskirts of Saraqib. His son used to work alongside him at a small vegetable stall near their home, but Abdulhamid’s injury brought all work to a halt, leaving the family with no provider except for occasional help from relatives and it is barely enough to survive. Their suffering is compounded by the family’s young daughter in Turkey, who is ill and in urgent need of a kidney transplant, leaving them with nothing but patience and hope of help.
