After 11 years of displacement and hardship in Lebanon’s camps due to the war, Hassan decided to return to Syria, fleeing the difficult conditions there. ‏On his way back, he was arrested, brutally beaten without mercy. His only “crime” was being from the city of Al-Qusayr in Homs, which had risen against the oppressive regime. He was transferred between several security branches, including Saydnaya Prison, where he endured years of injustice and various forms of brutal torture. Hassan was freed from detention last December, returning to his family only to find his home completely destroyed by shelling. Years of displacement and imprisonment have drained Hassan’s strength and resources, leaving him unable to rebuild his life on his own.
