In 2018, Iyad was arrested by the regime and sent to Saydnaya prison, where he was sentenced to death. His family gave up everything they had to reduce the sentence, and instead, he spent more than six years in the hell of Saydnaya—enduring beatings, humiliation, cold, starvation, and broken bones. Today, Iyad is out of prison, but he returns with an exhausted body and a broken spirit. He now needs monthly treatment to recover his health, and he has also contracted tuberculosis, which prevents him from working or supporting his family.
